Our Extentions FAQS

What you need to know

POTENTIAL CLIENT ALLERGIES

Prior to hair extension installation, it is important to test for potential allergic reactions to the tape adhesives, metal rings, or other materials used in extensions. Ideally you should do this during an initial consultation at least 48 hours before the fitting appointment.

We don’t recommend colouring or dying  hair extensions. Extensions undergo a number of different processes to achieve the final look at feel. Further colouring or dying could affect the hair’s integrity and appearance. If a colour change is  unavoidable, we would recommend dying a clients hair to match the extensions, as opposed to dying the extension.

You should ensure  hair is clean and completely dry before starting . Ideally you shouldn’t use conditioners, hair masks  or any other  styling products before application. These can cause slippage and could  prevent  the adhesives from bonding securely to the natural hair.

It is best not to wash hair for at least 48 hours after extensions have been applied to give the  adhesive time to  fully bond and set. For routine maintenance, less is more: aim to wash hair no more than three times a week. Too much washing can strip the extensions of moisture, leading to dryness, damage and premature wear.

Start the washing process by gently detangling from the  ends to  the roots with a soft brush. Gently wash hair in lukewarm water avoiding.

Dry hair straight  after washing. We recommend   squeezing   the water  out of the hair first. Then dry on a cool setting gradually increasing  the heat. You should not ]leave extensions to air dry as this can weaken the bonds.

Heat tools can be used on extensions but we recommend keeping the heat low. It is also important to avoid applying heat to the bonding sections.

It is important to regularly  check and gently separate the  extension bonds ensuring that natural hear doesn’t become tangled in the bonds.  Keeping the  bonds separated ensures your extensions remain manageable.

Lighter hair extensions can be susceptible to discolouration, this can be caused by a number  of factors such as the environment. It is best to avoid   allowing products containing UV protectants, sunscreens, tanning lotions and some heat protectants to come into contact with the hair

These products can alter the shade of extensions, especially  when mixed with hard  or sea water.

Other factors that can cause discoloration  include  exposure to sun, the sea and swimming pool chemicals.

Fading, on the other hand, is part of the  natural process affecting all hair over time. Factors accelerating fading include certain hair care ingredients, UV exposure  and the use of some styling tools.

Under no circumstances should clients attempt to remove extensions themselves. Doing so can damage both the natural hair and the  extensions.

Using the correct tools and equipment  is essential as are regular maintenance appointments.
